Moon Rabbit

This concept was developed from Chinese folk law. The moon rabbit was believed to be a spirit on the moon who created the elixir of life. This stemmed from the markings on the moon itself when viewed from the east there is the depiction of a rabbit and a pestle and mortar.

This design was developed for a video game based on the Chinese folklore surrounding the Autumn festival. The game was designed in the style of the late 90’s and early 2000’s video games.

In this design I wanted to reference the markings on the moon by using bold lights and shadows to great the forms of the rabbit as well as traditional Chinese jade rabbit sculptures.

I wanted the beast to be threatening but also majestic at the same time with an ethereal quality.

This model was free hand sculpted in Zbrush and then textured and rendered in Unreal Engine.
